Kazakhstan now operates 304 primary mental health centres and offices, and in the first half of 2026 the outpatient service recorded more than 874,000 visits. The Ministry of Health released the figures on World Mental Health Day, marked on 10 October, according to infohub.kz.
The ministry said 101 primary centres and 203 offices operate within medical organisations. This allows patients to receive specialised care close to home, including at outpatient clinics. By the end of 2026, the ministry plans to open six more primary centres.
The mental health system is being developed with a focus on early detection, outpatient treatment and rehabilitation. In the first six months of the year, 874,398 outpatient visits were registered.
Rehabilitation units for patients with psychoactive substance dependence operate in all 20 regions of Kazakhstan. Rehabilitation coverage after voluntary treatment rose from 27% in 2023 to 50% in 2025.
Access to treatment without round-the-clock hospitalisation is also growing. In 2026, the number of day-care psychiatric beds increased by 3.7%.
The ministry said the country is improving early detection of autism spectrum disorders and medical support for children. As of 1 October, 21,335 people with ASD were under follow-up, including 20,777 children.
In 2025, 2,150 healthcare workers completed training on mental health issues. Primary care organisations are introducing modern approaches to early diagnosis and patient support.
The ministry intends to continue expanding the network of centres, developing child psychiatric care and improving rehabilitation programmes. The goal is to ensure access to care at every stage, from prevention and early detection to treatment and rehabilitation.
Earlier, Kursiv reported that the Ministry of Health had reviewed mental health services in the Mangystau Region and issued recommendations to improve the quality and accessibility of care. At the time of the review, 9,966 people in the region were under follow-up, including 2,549 children and adolescents.
