Kazakhstan's Ministry of Internal Affairs has warned citizens that traffic conditions in the country are monitored not only from the ground but also from the air. According to the ministry's information portal, unmanned aerial vehicles have become one of the tools for traffic surveillance — police receive real-time information from above and identify offenses, reports infohub.kz.
The ministry noted that modern drones are equipped with cameras, capable of automated flights and transmitting video in real time. These capabilities allow law enforcement to record violations at the moment they occur.
The scale of the operation is impressive: in just eight months of 2026, drones detected more than 20,000 traffic violations. Among them were 3,198 violations of seat belt requirements, 2,055 instances of mobile phone use while driving, 1,678 cases of driving into oncoming traffic, 1,481 violations of external lighting regulations, 1,207 violations of maneuvering rules, 771 violations of overtaking rules, and 87 cases of driving without state registration plates. More than 9,000 other traffic violations were also recorded.
Thus, aerial monitoring is becoming an increasingly important element of road safety in Kazakhstan, and drivers should remember: their maneuvers could come under the lens of a drone camera at any moment.
