October in Kazakhstan will be 1–2°C warmer than the climate norm, with temperatures in some regions reaching +30°C. The national weather service Kazhydromet published its monthly advisory forecast, according to infohub.kz.
Temperatures near the norm are expected in the East Kazakhstan region, the northeastern half of the Pavlodar region, and the Abai region. Precipitation is forecast to be close to the climate norm across most of the country.
At the start of October, air temperatures across the country will remain at +15…+25°C. However, a northern cyclone will later bring a cold snap with rain, snow, and gusty winds of up to 15–28 m/s. Ground-level blizzards are possible in the northern half of the country. As Arctic air masses move in, fog, icy roads, and frosts will descend on the country.
The sharpest drops in temperature:
in the west and northwest, nighttime temperatures will fall to -6…+5°C, daytime to +2…+11°C;
in the north, east, and center, nighttime to -1…-6°C, daytime to 0…+8°C;
in the south and southeast, nighttime to 0…+5°C, daytime to +10…+15°C, while in mountainous areas nighttime will drop to -2…-10°C and daytime to +5…+10°C.
The cold snap will be short-lived, though. Already in the second half of the first ten-day period, warm air masses from Central Asia and the eastern Mediterranean coast will push daytime temperatures in most of Kazakhstan up to +15…+20°C, and in the southwest and southern half to +18…+28°C.
In the second and third ten-day periods of October, temperatures will fluctuate:
in the western and northwestern regions, nighttime from +5…+12°C to -5…+5°C, daytime from +18…+28°C to +10…+20°C;
in the north, center, and east, nighttime from +3…+8°C to -1…-8°C, daytime from +15…+23°C to +3…+13°C;
in the southern half, nighttime from +5…+10°C to -3…+5°C, daytime from +15…+23°C to +20…+30°C; during some periods nighttime temperatures will drop to -1…-6°C, while daytime will rise to +10…+15°C.
What weather to expect in the first days of October
From October 1 to 3, due to the influence of atmospheric frontal zones, weather across most of the country will be unpredictable. The western regions will be hit hardest: heavy rain mixed with snow and storm-force winds are forecast.
Air temperatures in the west will also drop to -1…-6°C at night and rise to +3…+8°C during the day. In the morning, thermometers in the northwest will fall from +15…+25°C to +5…+15°C. In the north, east, and center, +13…+23°C is expected; in the south and southeast, +20…+25°C; and in mountainous areas, +10…+15°C.
Earlier, Kursiv reported that storm warnings were issued for several regions of Kazakhstan on October 1. Forecasters predict rain, thunderstorms, fog, and strong winds, with high and extreme fire danger persisting in some areas.
