More than 1.5 million Kazakh citizens received passports and ID cards in the first six months of 2026. In June alone, over 269,000 people obtained their documents, according to infohub.kz.
As noted by the state corporation 'Government for Citizens', a passport can be obtained at any Public Service Center (TsON) regardless of registration address. The cost depends on the number of pages and the age of the holder.
A 36-page passport costs 34,600 tenge, while a 48-page passport costs 51,900 tenge. A child's passport costs 17,300 tenge.
Kazakh citizens receive their ID card for the first time at age 16. The initial issuance is free of charge. No state fee is required for replacement after the expiration date either.
If the ID card is lost, a state fee of 865 tenge must be paid for a new one.
Production of a passport and ID card takes up to 15 business days. If necessary, both documents can be obtained on an expedited basis.
The 'Government for Citizens' recommends checking document validity in advance, especially before trips and other important events, and not postponing replacement until the last moment.
Earlier, 'Kursiv' reported that in case of loss, theft, or damage of a passport abroad, Kazakh citizens can obtain a return certificate at a Kazakh diplomatic mission, which grants the right to a one-time entry into the country. In the second quarter of 2026 alone, more than 800 such certificates were issued. Most often, they were requested by Kazakh citizens in Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, and Russia.
