In Kostanay, a court ordered the payment of more than 1.3 million tenge in a case involving a botched plastic surgery that left a woman with a scar deformity on her upper lip, reports infohub.kz.
According to the official Telegram channel of the Kostanay region courts, the Kostanay City Court heard a civil case brought by one woman against another seeking a refund and compensation for moral damages.
The court found that in October 2024, the defendant performed a cheiloplasty (lip surgery) on the plaintiff, charging 120,000 tenge. Due to unsatisfactory results, a second operation was performed in April 2025 at a cost of 90,000 tenge.
An inspection by the authorized body revealed that the defendant lacked a specialist certificate in plastic surgery and a license for medical practice. A comprehensive forensic medical examination was ordered. The conclusion found that the plaintiff developed a scar deformity on her upper lip due to excessive tissue removal during the surgeries. A direct causal link was established between the surgical interventions and the consequences. The health damage was classified as moderate severity.
The court concluded that the defendant engaged in medical practice without the necessary specialized education and license, and without maintaining medical records, resulting in harm to the plaintiff's health. The court partially granted the claim. It ordered the defendant to pay 210,000 tenge for the cost of the surgeries, 700,000 tenge for moral damages, and 457,000 tenge for the forensic examination expenses. The court decision has not yet entered into force.
