Toyota, Vaz, and Hyundai continue to dominate Kazakhstan's roads, with these three brands accounting for over 1.5 million passenger cars, according to infohub.kz.
As of July 1, 2026, about 5.1 million passenger cars were registered in the country, according to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Since the beginning of the year, their number has increased by 2.4%.
Kazakhstan's vehicle fleet remains one of the oldest in the world, with an average age of 19 years. The oldest cars are in the Zhambyl region, where the average age is 24 years, while the newest are in Astana, with an average of 12 years.
Notably, among the 15 most common brands, only one is Chinese: Changan, with 92,441 registered vehicles.
Despite the rapid growth in sales of new Chinese cars in recent years, the country's fleet is still predominantly made up of Japanese, Russian, Korean, and European brands. This is because most cars were imported and registered long before the current boom of Chinese brands.
In June 2026, about 167,900 vehicles were registered in Kazakhstan, up 13.7% from May and 4.5% year-on-year, according to the Ministry of Internal Affairs. Most registrations (87.4%) were for passenger cars, with the most common engine size being 1.5–2 liters.
Earlier, it was reported which regions have the highest car ownership rates. It was also reported that Chevrolet regained the lead in Kazakhstan's car market, while Changan entered the top three.
