According to the Bureau of National Statistics, as of August 1 of this year, Kazakhstan's population reached 20,604,819. Over the first seven months of the year, the increase amounted to 104,997 people, reports the website infohub.kz.
In terms of gender, the country is home to 10,531,747 women and 10,073,072 men. Thus, women constitute the majority of the population.
Urbanization continues to be a key trend: more than 13.2 million people live in cities, and since the beginning of the year, the urban population has increased by 126,649. At the same time, the number of rural residents decreased by 21,652, and now about 7.4 million Kazakhs live in rural areas.
The majority of the population is concentrated in large cities and densely populated regions. Almaty remains the leader in population with about 2.3 million residents. In second place is Turkistan Region with a population of approximately 2.1 million. The capital, Astana, is home to about 1.6 million people, a similar figure to Almaty Region. The population of Shymkent is approximately 1.3 million.
