Kazakhstan has taken 66th place in the latest global prosperity ranking, becoming the leader among Central Asian countries, according to infohub.kz.
The British think tank Legatum Institute has released a new edition of its Prosperity Index. The ranking assesses countries across dozens of indicators, from economic performance to personal freedoms. The full methodology is available on the index's official website.
Kazakhstan secured 66th place in the global list, the best result among Central Asian nations. Kyrgyzstan ranked 87th, Uzbekistan 94th, and Turkmenistan closed the regional group at 150th. Over the years of participation, Kazakhstan has climbed as high as 63rd place, its best-ever showing. Its worst position was 82nd, with an average of around 72nd place over all years of observation.
The Prosperity Index is built on three major pillars. The first covers economic performance and quality of life. The second measures personal freedoms, while the third analyzes social capital and community ties. Each pillar aggregates data from dozens of individual indicators, including healthcare, education, and investment climate. Legatum Institute publishes a full breakdown for Kazakhstan annually alongside the overall ranking update.
Legatum Institute is regarded as one of the leading research centers at the intersection of economics and sociology. The index has been published since 2007 and now covers 167 countries. Its methodology is used by analysts at the World Bank and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) in their own country reviews. This recognition from major international institutions sets the Prosperity Index apart from lesser-known well-being rankings.
Since 2011, Kazakhstan has risen 17 places in the ranking. The country has made the most significant progress in healthcare, which saw the greatest improvement among all categories over the decade. Legatum Institute analysts also highlight the stability of Kazakhstan's education and economic quality indicators, which have consistently been among its strengths in recent years.
