Foreign Ministry spokesperson Zhanbolat Usenov has revealed details of a system of electronic registration for foreigners wishing to enter Kazakhstan, the website infohub.kz reports.
According to the spokesperson, the QazETA tool will apply to citizens of all countries that have a visa-free regime with Kazakhstan. He clarified that it is not limited to Russian citizens, as the initiative is sometimes interpreted.
"You said that Kazakhstan is introducing a tool such as an electronic permit for Russian citizens. No, let me correct you — the possibility of introducing this tool is currently being considered for citizens of all countries with which Kazakhstan has a visa-free regime. Not only for citizens of the Russian Federation," Zhanbolat Usenov said.
The system is expected to become operational by the end of this year or the beginning of next. The Interior Ministry is developing the tool. Whether registration will be paid or free remains an open question.
"Whether registration will be paid or free — I cannot say, I cannot give official comments on this matter," the Foreign Ministry representative concluded.
It was previously reported that the Interior Ministry proposed changing the rules for foreigners entering Kazakhstan.
