Construction of the new Bakhty–Ayagoz railway, which will connect Kazakhstan with China via a third railway border crossing, is 52% complete, reports infohub.kz.

According to the Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Kazakhstan, over 20 million cubic meters of earthwork have been completed, accounting for 52% of the planned volume. The formation of the roadbed is expected to be finished in October this year. Currently, 1,379 specialists and 884 units of machinery are deployed at the construction site.

“The new railway line will create an additional international transport corridor with the Republic of Uzbekistan, redirect freight flows from the congested Saryagash–Tashkent section, increase network capacity, and expand transit traffic toward Central Asian countries,” the Ministry of Transport stated.

Thanks to the project, the transport corridor’s capacity will increase to 25 million tons of cargo per year, boosting international freight volumes. Earlier, the government ordered the acceleration of an aviation hub on the China–Europe route.
