In 2025, Kazakhstan saw a record volume of public catering services, exceeding 2.1 trillion tenge. The number of food service establishments in the country grew by 17.5% to 19,588, up from 16,674 a year earlier, reports infohub.kz.
The largest number of catering outlets is concentrated in Almaty, with 3,522 establishments. Astana has 2,761, and the Karaganda Region rounds out the top three with 1,275.
The café segment is growing the fastest: their number increased by 15.1%, from 5,202 to 5,987. Most cafés are in Almaty (1,036), Astana (809), and the Karaganda Region (485).
The number of canteens rose by 5.7%, from 5,618 to 5,940. Classic restaurants increased by 666, bringing the total to 3,024. Notably, Astana now has more restaurants than Almaty: 654 versus 602. Unexpectedly, the West Kazakhstan Region took third place with 248 restaurants.
Experts attribute this growth to changing consumer habits among Kazakhstanis, the development of delivery services, and a shift in demand toward more affordable dining formats.
