A resident of Kazakhstan spent a large sum on air tickets but was unable to fly to Dubai due to repeated flight cancellations. In the end, he managed to get all his money back, reports infohub.kz.
According to the Committee for Consumer Protection, in June of this year, the man purchased two tickets for the route Astana-Dubai-Astana for 554,530 tenge. However, the carrier canceled the flights three times for reasons beyond the passenger's control.
Due to the constant cancellations, the man had to change his travel dates, for which he paid an additional 38,826 tenge. Thus, the total cost of the trip reached 593,356 tenge.
After another flight cancellation, the consumer decided to abandon the trip and demanded a refund for the tickets. But the airline refused to compensate the amount paid for changing the dates.
The man then turned to the Department of Trade and Consumer Protection for the city of Astana. Specialists from the department examined documents confirming payment and correspondence with the airline.
As a result of the investigation, the issue was resolved in favor of the consumer - he was refunded all 593,356 tenge in full.
The committee reminds: if a flight is canceled or rescheduled, keep your tickets, payment documents, notifications of changes, correspondence with the airline, and receipts for additional expenses. This will help protect your rights.
