Kazakhstan is preparing to resume its program for recycling end-of-life vehicles, reports infohub.kz.
Owners of old cars will be able to hand them over to recyclers and receive a discount certificate for the purchase of an environmentally friendly car made in Kazakhstan.
According to the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, the program will be implemented in two stages: concluding contracts with recycling enterprises and accepting and reviewing applications for recycling cars and agricultural machinery. The exact start dates for accepting vehicles have not yet been announced. First, Zhasyl Damu must select recyclers and sign contracts with them. After that, a list of collection points will be published.
After handing over a car for recycling, the owner will receive a discount certificate. The size of the discount will be determined by the authorized state body in the field of industrialization. The certificate will be valid for one year from the date of issue. The owner can transfer the certificate to another person no more than three times. Up to two certificates can be used to purchase one car, and up to four for agricultural machinery. The discount certificates will be financed from the recycling fee.
Enterprises involved in processing ferrous metals will be able to participate in the program. The share of non-recyclable waste after processing must not exceed 5% of the weight of accepted vehicles. Additional collection points are also planned, including in regions where there are currently no recycling enterprises.
The previous recycling program ran from 2016 to January 2022. During that time, Kazakhstan accepted nearly 219,000 vehicles, including 215,400 cars and 3,500 units of agricultural machinery.
