A working group has been set up in Kazakhstan to reform the road sector, Deputy Prime Minister Nurlan Baibazarov said at a government briefing, according to infohub.kz.

"I would like to dwell separately on the state of our roads. The head of state has repeatedly and rightly criticized the quality of roads. On the president's instructions, the Ministry of Transport has been designated the body responsible for all roads in the country. In order to raise road construction standards and strengthen the accountability of all industry participants for road quality, a working group on reforming the road sector has been established under my chairmanship," Nurlan Baibazarov said.

The deputy prime minister added that international experience will be studied and solutions developed to improve road quality.

"We will approve a corresponding action plan setting out the necessary measures, including legislative ones, to eliminate existing shortcomings," he added.

Recall that in September, President Qasym-Jomart Toqaev addressed participants in the "Taza Qazaqstan" campaign after a tree-planting event and spoke, among other things, about the situation with roads in the country.

Later, speaking at the first session of the Qazaqstan Halyq Keñesi, Toqaev noted that the situation in the road sector "leaves much to be desired."

Immediately afterward, Olzhas Bektenov instructed the Ministry of Transport and the country's akimats to "strengthen control over road projects, respond to people's appeals and prevent missed deadlines." He said First Deputy Prime Minister Nurlan Baibazarov would be responsible for this.

A few weeks ago, the Ministry of Transport outlined the measures it plans to take to improve road quality in the country.
