Trucks have again lined up at the Kazakhstan-Russia border in the Kostanay Region, with a queue of lorries forming at the Kairak road crossing, according to infohub.kz.
The Kostanay Regional Department of State Revenue said the cause was a buildup of vehicles at the crossing. Repair and reconstruction work is currently underway, temporarily closing one outbound lane. This has affected the crossing's capacity and increased waiting times for freight transport.
An additional factor was a seasonal rise in cargo traffic, including shipments of agricultural and fruit-and-vegetable products, as well as goods destined for neighboring countries, the department said.
The Department of State Revenue added that the crossing is operating normally and the situation is under constant monitoring. "Staff are taking the necessary measures to ensure continuous processing and passage of freight transport. We ask foreign economic activity participants and carriers to take the current situation into account when planning shipments and, where possible, to choose alternative routes through other road crossings," the department said.
The department also noted that it continues to monitor the throughput of the Kairak crossing and is working with relevant government agencies to prevent unjustified delays at the state border.
