Kazakhstan has put one tonne of saiga horns up for electronic auction, with the starting price of the lot exceeding 1.2 billion tenge, the website infohub.kz reports.
The lot was posted on the electronic trading portal e-Qazyna.kz. The total value of the entire volume of horns is 1,227,148,000 tenge. The lot description states that the horns reach 25 centimetres in length. Judging by the photographs attached to the listing, the horns are packed in boxes.
The seller is the joint-stock company "Zhasyl Damu". The sale is authorised by an order from Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources Yerlan Nysanbayev dated 30 July 2026.
"The joint-stock company 'Zhasyl Damu' shall sell saiga derivatives in the amount of 1 (one) tonne," the document says.
It is noted that the decision was made in accordance with the rules for the sale of saiga derivatives approved by an order of the Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources dated 22 July 2026 No. 140. This is stated in the order.
The document separately sets the price of one kilogramme of horns. "To set the price for one kilogramme of saiga horns at an amount equivalent to 2,600 (two thousand six hundred) US dollars," the order reads.
