A user on Threads shared images of school notebook covers featuring abbreviations popular among Kazakhstan's youth that can be interpreted in multiple ways, reports infohub.kz.
One abbreviation, ШШС, caught users' attention. Although the cover includes the explanation "Shyda, shyragym synakkoy" ("Hold on, sunshine, it's just a test"), online it is associated with a swear word.
Similarly, the abbreviation СГЛ appears with the explanation "Sen grandka layiqty syng" ("You deserve a grant"), but young people also use it as an insult.
There are also notebooks with text reading "Tsunbiyatrm" and "....... qys!" which have raised questions.
On the brand's social media page, the notebooks are described as "motivational."
Social media users are divided. Some have expressed outrage, calling the inscriptions unethical and disrespectful. They questioned where the relevant authorities were and demanded the notebooks be removed from sale.
Others considered the idea creative but clearly not suitable for school supplies. They suggested that anyone who dislikes the design can simply cover the notebook with an opaque cover.
