Kazakhstan has imposed a seizure on the property and vehicles of the North Caspian Operating Company (NCOC), the international consortium developing the Kashagan oil field, according to Reuters, as reported on infohub.kz.
According to data from the automated information system of enforcement bodies under Kazakhstan's Ministry of Justice, the enforcement proceedings have been in effect since July 21. The document does not specify which assets and vehicles were seized.
The NCOC consortium, which includes Shell, Eni, TotalEnergies, and Exxon Mobil, did not respond to a request for comment from Reuters.
The conflict between Kazakhstan and the Kashagan operator dates back to 2023, when the government demanded NCOC pay 2.3 trillion tenge for storing excess sulfur.
The consortium refused to acknowledge the claims, and the dispute was referred to international arbitration.
In July, Kazakh authorities stated they would continue to pursue the environmental fine. NCOC, in turn, emphasized that further actions should be taken within the arbitration process.
