Kazakhstan's national team won seven medals in a single competition day at the XX Summer Asian Games 2026, hosted by Japan's Aichi-Nagoya region, infohub.kz reports.
Alexey Lutsenko brought the national team its seventh gold, winning the group road cycling race with a mass start. The 34-year-old athlete became Kazakhstan's first six-time Asian Games champion. Yevgeny Fedorov took silver in the same event.
Track and field athlete Kristina Morozova also became a 2026 Asian Games runner-up in race walking over the half-marathon distance. Kazakhstan's women's skeet shooting team also won silver: Asem Orynbay, Zoya Piskun and Adel Sadakbayeva represented the country in the skeet discipline.
On Wednesday, Orynbay also took third place in the individual final. Artyom Sarkisyan also won bronze — Kazakhstan's first ever in an individual Asian Games sabre fencing tournament. Wushu athlete Alizhan Ablagatov claimed a similar medal in the up to 70 kg weight category.
China strengthened its lead in the overall standings after Wednesday. The host nation Japan is confidently second. South Korea has pulled one gold ahead of Kazakhstan.
Tajikistan and Uzbekistan dropped out of the top 10 but remain close by, in 11th and 14th places respectively. Turkmenistan shares 28th-29th places, while Kyrgyzstan is in 31st.
