September 2026 set a temperature record in Kazakhstan: the average air temperature exceeded the climate norm by 2.38 degrees, breaking the maximum for the entire observation period, the website infohub.kz reports.
According to the state enterprise Kazhydromet, September 2026 was the warmest in the entire history of meteorological observations in Kazakhstan. The previous record for average monthly temperature had stood since September 1957.
Positive temperature anomalies covered the entire territory of the country. Across most of Kazakhstan, the average temperature exceeded the climate norm by 1.5–3 degrees.
"The highest positive deviations — 3.0–4.1 °C — were recorded mainly in the North Kazakhstan, Pavlodar, Akmola and Kostanay regions, as well as in the central parts of the Aktobe region and the Ulytau region, the northern districts of the Karaganda region and the Abai region," the statement said.
The most significant anomaly was registered in Petropavlovsk in the North Kazakhstan region. There, the average monthly temperature exceeded the climate norm by 4.1 degrees.
"According to data from 67.5% of meteorological stations, located mainly in the northern, western, central and southern regions of the country, the values of the average monthly air temperature corresponded to the category of extremely high. These values fell within the 5% highest for the entire observation period, with a non-exceedance probability of 95–100%," the weather service added.
