Kazakhstan's second-ranked men's singles player, Alexander Shevchenko, advanced to the quarterfinals of the ATP 250 clay-court tournament in Gstaad, reports infohub.kz.
Shevchenko, ranked 100th in the ATP rankings, faced Swiss Dominic Stephan Stricker, who is ranked 360th and entered the main draw on a wildcard. The match started on July 16 but was interrupted by rain and concluded the following day. Shevchenko won 7:6 (7:5 in the tiebreak), 6:2.
The players spent 1 hour 28 minutes on court. During that time, the Kazakh hit nine aces, committed four double faults, and converted three of four break points.
In the quarterfinals, Shevchenko will face Frenchman Quentin Halys, ranked 90th in the ATP. Halys defeated Alexander Bublik in the second round.
