A man in western Kazakhstan has been sentenced for stabbing another man over likes on his wife's Instagram photos, the website infohub.kz reports.
According to the official Telegram channel of courts in the West Kazakhstan Region, the Zhanibek District Court heard a criminal case against a Kazakh citizen charged under Part 1 of Article 106 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The case was heard in an expedited procedure, in an open hearing, with audio and video recording, in electronic format.
The court found that on May 10, 2026, at around 02:00, the defendant, intending to inflict grievous bodily harm, got into a conflict with the victim because the latter had liked photos on an Instagram page belonging to his lawful wife.
During the conflict, the defendant pulled from his pocket a pre-prepared brown folding knife with a wooden handle and stabbed the victim twice in the bladder area and once in the shoulder blade area, then fled the scene.
As a result, the victim suffered grievous bodily harm in the form of a penetrating stab wound to the anterior abdominal wall in the navel area with damage to internal organs.
The defendant fully admitted his guilt, repented, apologized to the victim and assured the court that he would not repeat such actions. He asked not to be deprived of liberty.
The state prosecutor asked for a sentence of 3 years' imprisonment.
The court found the defendant guilty and sentenced him to 3 years' imprisonment.
However, in accordance with Article 63 of the Criminal Code, the imposed sentence was deemed suspended. A 3-year probation period was established.
The convicted man was assigned the following obligations: not to change his permanent place of residence or work without notifying the probation service; not to visit public places where alcoholic beverages are sold (cafes, bars, restaurants); not to leave his permanent place of residence for other settlements without notifying the probation service; to stay at home at night from 22:00 to 06:00; and not to commit intentional offenses.
The sentence has entered into legal force.
