At the start of 2026, Kazakhstan's population aged 60 and older reached 2,923,472, accounting for 14.2% of the country's total, according to the Bureau of National Statistics, as reported by infohub.kz.
Women significantly outnumber men among older citizens: 1,760,202 women compared with 1,163,270 men.
Almaty has the largest concentration of people over 60, with 328,385. It is followed by Turkistan Region with 216,544, Karaganda Region with 212,487, Almaty Region with 203,499 and Astana with 171,138.
Urban areas are home to 1,894,268 pensioners, while 1,029,204 live in rural areas.
The Bureau of National Statistics also noted that 1,323 people in the country have reached the age of 100 or older.
In the second quarter of 2026, the number of employed citizens aged 60 and older stood at 465,302.
As of 2025, Kazakhstan had 2,415,095 pension recipients.
