The organizing committee of the 2026 Asian Games in Japan has ratified the results of the women's marathon race walk, stripping Kazakhstan of a gold medal, infohub.kz reports.
The competition took place on September 27. Yasmine Toksanbayeva crossed the finish line first, but her result was subsequently protested. Following reviews, as reported on the official Asian Games website, the Kazakh athlete was disqualified.
The reason cited was regulation clauses related to equipment. Earlier, Kazakhstan's National Olympic Committee emphasized that World Athletics was checking whether Toksanbayeva's competition shoes were on the list of approved gear.
The athlete herself confirmed the annulment of her result in an Instagram story.
"Forgive me for these fleeting emotions. I really wanted to give you gold. But the ways of the Almighty are inscrutable, and even this will not stop me on the path to my dream. The result has been annulled. We fought to the end. Thank you to all my superheroes who fought for me until the last moment! From my personal coach, the entire staff of the Athletics Federation of Kazakhstan, to the Minister of Sports. Today I was shattered into a thousand pieces," Toksanbayeva wrote.
After the Kazakh athlete's disqualification, the gold in the women's marathon race walk went to China's Dangjing Qujuzun. The silver went to her compatriot Li Ma, and the bronze to Japan's Yukiko Umeno.
Kazakhstan's team now has nine gold medals at the 2026 Asian Games. The team remains fifth in the overall standings.
