Kazakhstan's Supreme Audit Chamber has launched a state audit of the Defense Ministry's activities. The agency announced the start of the inspection on its Telegram channel, according to infohub.kz.
The audit will examine the efficiency of budget spending and the logistical support of military units.
Recall that after the deaths of servicemen in the Mangystau Region, Kazakhstan's President Qasym-Jomart Toqaev signed an order to establish a commission for a comprehensive review of the state of affairs at the country's Defense Ministry.
In addition, there have been changes in the ministry's leadership. Dauren Kosanov was dismissed from his post as Minister of Defense of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Aidos Myrzakhmetov was appointed in his place.
The tragedy occurred on September 24 during a training combat mission: due to a sudden and sharp deterioration in weather conditions and gusty winds, 17 servicemen were swept into the Caspian Sea, and 14 of them died.
Three were rescued, and one was hospitalized. The day before, the regional health department reported that the patient had been taken to the Mangystau Regional Multidisciplinary Hospital. The serviceman's condition was assessed as stable but serious.
Among the survivors are also 19-year-old Beket Kuandyk from the Atyrau Region and Nikita Udalov from the West Kazakhstan Region.
