Kazakhstan's swimming team finished another day of competition at the 2026 Summer Asian Games in Japan without a medal, but the men's squad twice broke the national record in the 4x100-meter freestyle relay, infohub.kz reports.
In the final, Adilbek Mussin, Maksim Klimenko, Gleb Kovalenya and Aibat Myrzamuratov clocked 3 minutes 17.86 seconds. Despite the new national mark, the Kazakh quartet finished only fifth.
China won the relay. South Korea and Japan took silver and bronze, respectively.
On Thursday, Adilbek Mussin also competed in the individual 50-meter butterfly final. He finished eighth with a time of 23.58 seconds. Notably, at the two previous Asian Games the swimmer won bronze in the event.
Maksim Skazobtsov tied for 12th-13th in the same event's heats and failed to reach the final. Sofya Spodarenko and Sofia Abubakirova were eliminated in the 50-meter freestyle preliminaries, placing 14th and 18th, respectively. Fyodor Didenko finished 18th in the 800-meter freestyle.
Aibat Myrzamuratov failed to reach the 200-meter breaststroke final, finishing 11th in the heats. Japan's Shin Ohashi won the final in that event, setting a world record of 2 minutes 4.83 seconds.
