Swimming competition at the 2026 Asian Games has wrapped up, and Kazakhstan's national team has failed to win a single medal in the sport for the first time in 24 years, infohub.kz reports.
On the final day of the swimming tournament, two Kazakh athletes reached the finals. Sofya Spodarenko finished sixth in the 50-meter butterfly, clocking 26.49 seconds in the decisive race. In the same distance in breaststroke, Aibat Myrzamuratov rounded out the top ten, swimming 27.98 seconds in the final.
Another Kazakh representative, Sofia Abubakirova, failed to advance past the preliminary stage in the 50-meter butterfly, finishing 12th.
Aleksandr Rumynskiy finished 11th in the 200-meter backstroke. Fyodor Didenko placed 19th in the 400-meter freestyle. Maksim Skazobtsov also exited in qualifying in the 200-meter butterfly, taking 16th place there.
As a result, Kazakhstan's team has been left without Asian Games swimming medals for the first time in 24 years. The previous such occurrence was in Busan in 2002.
