Kazakhstan's taekwondo team has finished its campaign at the 20th Summer Asian Games in Japan, claiming two medals — one gold and one bronze. On the second day of competition, the national squad was unable to add to its medal tally, according to infohub.kz.
In the women's under-57-kilogram division, Togzhan Kaznabek began in the round of 16. The Kazakh athlete faced Iran's Nahid Kiyanichandeh and lost 0-2, ending her medal pursuit.
In the women's over-67-kilogram category, Nazym Makhmutova also exited in the round of 16. Her opponent was Vietnam's Thi Khien Bac, who won the bout 2-0.
Two other Kazakh athletes managed to reach the quarterfinals. In the under-68-kilogram division, Samirkhon Ababakirov met South Korea's Jinho Moon but suffered a 0-2 defeat and was eliminated from medal contention.
In the over-80-kilogram category, Beibarys Kablан took on Mohammad Aladarbi of Jordan in the quarterfinals. The Kazakh athlete lost a hard-fought match 1-2 and also fell just short of the medal rounds.
These bouts were the last for Kazakhstan's representatives in the taekwondo program at the 2026 Asian Games. The national team thus concluded the tournament with two medals: one gold and one bronze.
Tamirlan Tleules became an Asian Games champion, delivering Kazakhstan's gold medal. Batyrkhan Toleugali earned the other medal, taking bronze and stepping onto the third tier of the podium.
