Kazakhstan has introduced a temporary ban on Latin-script signs and banners for state and private organizations. The decision is linked to the pending approval of a new Kazakh alphabet based on Latin script, reports infohub.kz.

Central and local executive bodies have been recommended to suspend the display of visual and other information for all organizations, regardless of ownership, in Latin script until the improved alphabet is approved, the Ministry of Science and Higher Education noted.

Currently, linguists from the Institute of Linguistics, the National Scientific and Practical Center "Til-Qazyna," and universities are refining the draft alphabet and spelling rules for the Kazakh language based on Latin script.

Earlier it was reported that most of the funds allocated for transitioning the Kazakh alphabet to Latin script were returned to the budget due to changes in work plans. Additional funds from the republican budget for the project and digital services will be allocated only after the official approval of the alphabet and all regulatory acts.
