In Kazakhstan, owners of cars imported from the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) have been reminded that the temporary registration period is coming to an end. The first five-year registrations are already starting to expire, reports infohub.kz.
The police department of the Almaty region has urged car owners to check the validity of their registration and vehicle documents in advance. If the temporary registration is about to expire, citizens are asked not to delay resolving the issue and to clarify the procedure for further use of the vehicle in a timely manner.
The police also reminded that the use of a vehicle must comply with the requirements of Kazakhstan's legislation.
The temporary registration program started in July 2023. It applied to cars brought into Kazakhstan before September 1, 2022, that could not be legalized because they were not deregistered in the country of previous registration or had other restrictions.
Such owners were allowed to register their cars temporarily for five years, giving them time to resolve the legal status. When issuing temporary registration, a note was made in the certificate: "without the right of alienation and departure outside the Republic of Kazakhstan." Foreign license plates and registration documents were handed over to the state corporation "Government for Citizens" for safekeeping.
After the five-year period expires, the temporary registration is automatically terminated. This measure was a continuation of the campaign to legalize foreign cars, which took place in Kazakhstan from January 23 to July 1, 2023.
