Going to the theater in Kazakhstan cost residents an average of 41.5% more in January–August 2026 than in the same period of 2025, infohub.kz reports.
Overall inflation in the country stood at 9.8% at the end of August, but some sectors are seeing far sharper price growth. Theater tickets were among the biggest gainers. According to data from the Taldau information and analytical system, prices in August 2026 were 36.8% higher than in August 2025. The last sharp monthly jump was recorded in May 2026, when tickets rose 5.8% in a single month.
By region, Almaty was the clear leader in theater price growth: tickets there cost an average of 74.1% more in January–August than a year earlier. It was followed by Aktobe Region with a 37.5% annual increase, then Pavlodar Region at 30%. Theater tickets rose 25.7% in Astana and 13.3% in Shymkent. No data is available for Almaty Region, and in three regions — Ulytau, Zhetisu and Akmola Region — ticket prices were unchanged over the year.
Theaters are not the only thing getting more expensive. According to the Bureau of National Statistics, cinema tickets were up an average of 12.4% year-on-year at the end of August. Prices across Kazakhstan's entertainment sector as a whole were previously reported to be rising.
