A widely discussed conflict in Georgia’s Kakheti region, which has been heavily debated on social media and in the press, has so far not affected Kazakhstani interest in vacationing in Georgia, reports infohub.kz.
According to Inna Rey, chairperson of the corporate fund “Turistіk qamqor” and the Association of Tour Operators of Kazakhstan, the incident should not be linked to the tourism industry, as it was a domestic conflict between individuals. “I would still classify this incident as a domestic issue of interpersonal relationships. Since they happened to be tourists, it's simply a matter of human relations. Tourists have not reacted to this story; there are no complaints or claims,” Rey said.
According to her data, no booking cancellations or decrease in demand for trips to Georgia have been recorded after the incident. The destination remains one of the most popular among Kazakh tourists.
Meanwhile, the investigation into the conflict continues. As reported by Sova, a court in Georgia released Giorgi Chigladze on bail of 5,000 lari. He is accused of attacking a Russian tourist. During the hearing, he expressed regret over the incident. The investigation is ongoing to verify the circumstances and actions of both sides.
