Kazakhstan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs has reported that a tourist from the country crossed the border from Nepal into China as part of a tour group, according to infohub.kz.
Earlier, it became known that a landslide occurred near the border crossing between China and Nepal, affecting road traffic, communications, and electricity supply. Later, reports emerged of severe flooding, leaving thousands missing. The major flood was attributed to an earthquake followed by a landslide.
Following this, Kazakhstan's MFA provided initial information about its citizens. Previously, no information about Kazakhstani nationals at the disaster site was available. However, today new details were given to a NUR.KZ correspondent.
"According to preliminary information, a citizen of Kazakhstan crossed the border from Nepal to China as part of a tourist group. The current whereabouts of our citizen are not yet known. Search efforts for the missing are underway. Kazakh diplomats continue to work with local government agencies," the ministry said in a comment.
It should be noted that this morning the death toll from the disaster exceeded 160 people. Additionally, authorities in Nepal and China have reported missing citizens from several countries.
