Kazakhstan's men's track cycling team fell just short of the podium at the 2026 Summer Asian Games in Japan, finishing fourth in the team pursuit. The quartet of Ilya Karabutov, Maksim Khoroshavin, Ramis Dinmukhametov and Dmitry Noskov lost the bronze-medal ride to South Korea, infohub.kz reports.
The Kazakhs led for most of the race but surrendered their advantage over the final 500 metres. They covered the four kilometres in 3 minutes 58.718 seconds, finishing 2.785 seconds behind the South Korean team.
China won gold in the team pursuit, setting an Asian record of 3:47.621. The silver medals went to the host nation, Japan, with a time of 3:49.005.
Kazakh riders also competed in the men's individual sprint the same day. Kirill Kurdidi came through qualifying comfortably to reach the quarter-finals, with those heats scheduled for Thursday. Daniyar Shayakhmetov placed 17th in the preliminary round and failed to advance to the main draw.
