Kazakhstan's Transport Ministry has announced internet access on five railway routes, according to the ministry's press service.
As of now, passenger trains on the following routes are equipped with internet: Kyzylorda–Pavlodar, Zhezkazgan–Astana, Astana–Semey, Almaty–Dostyk, and Kyzylorda–Kokshetau.
"The use of satellite communication provides stable internet access even on sections of the railway route where mobile operators have no coverage. This allows passengers to use messengers, social networks, work services and other online platforms for almost the entire journey," the ministry said.
The ministry explained that to connect, passengers need to select the Wi-Fi network on the train and authorize. After that, they can use free access for text messaging in WhatsApp and Telegram, or purchase a paid plan that provides full access to online resources, social networks, video services, and work applications.
The ministry noted that providing internet access on passenger trains is one of its priority areas.
