In Kazakhstan, 91% of all road accidents occur due to gross violations of traffic rules, reports infohub.kz.
According to the Ministry of Transport, the most common causes of accidents are speeding (33% of cases), loss of control over the vehicle (14%), failure to maintain distance (13%), and ignoring road sign requirements (10%).
The ministry emphasized that improving driver discipline remains the main way to reduce accident rates.
Meanwhile, the situation on roads of republican significance is gradually improving. In the first half of 2026, the number of accidents decreased by 9% — from 1,507 to 1,371, despite a 37% increase in traffic intensity, reaching 22.3 million vehicles.
One of the most effective tools, according to the Ministry of Transport, is the control of average speed, which is implemented on toll roads with a total length of 2.3 thousand km. According to the ministry, after its introduction, the number of accidents on these sections decreased by 17%.
In addition, road infrastructure is being modernized to improve safety. Currently, 56 laser speed control systems operate on 22 toll sections. Every year, road services replace more than 8 thousand road signs, update markings, install new traffic lights and pedestrian crossings.
