Kazakhstan's triathlon team finished seventh in the mixed relay at the 2026 Asian Games in Japan. Diana Yerzhanova, Yegor Krupyakov, Aida Kim and Ayan Beisenbayev competed for the national team, infohub.kz reports.
The Kazakh quartet covered the distance in 1 hour 31 minutes 45 seconds, finishing 5 minutes 51 seconds behind the winners.
China took gold with a time of 1:25:54. Japan was second in 1:26:45, and Hong Kong claimed bronze in 1:27:25.
In the mixed relay, each of the four participants completes a leg consisting of a 300-metre swim, a 6.6-kilometre bike ride and a 2-kilometre run. The competition was held in the Japanese town of Gamagori.
A day earlier, Arlan Zhanabay won bronze in the men's individual triathlon, giving Kazakhstan its first medal of the 2026 Asian Games. Diana Yerzhanova finished 17th in the women's race.
The XX Summer Asian Games in Japan officially opened on September 19. Athletes from 45 countries are competing for 460 sets of medals: 217 in men's events, 204 in women's events and 39 in mixed events. The tournaments will be held across 68 disciplines in 41 sports.
Kazakhstan's team at the 2026 Asian Games will feature 559 athletes. The day before, the Kazakh team won four gold medals. Cyclists Rinata Sultanova and Alexey Lutsenko, along with karateka Zholaman Bigabyl and Sofya Berultseva, became champions of the Games.
