Kazakhstan and Turkey have signed a readmission agreement in Astana, setting out procedures for returning individuals who have no legal grounds to stay in either country, the website infohub.kz reports.
The ceremony took place during a meeting of interior ministers from the Organization of Turkic States. The document was signed by Kazakh Interior Minister Yerzhan Sadenov and Turkish Interior Minister Mustafa Çiftçi, capping bilateral talks.
Readmission is a procedure under which a state takes back its own citizens and, in cases covered by the agreement, other persons who have no legal grounds to remain in another country.
The new document creates a legal framework for cooperation between Kazakhstan and Turkey and is intended to streamline the return of those who violate migration laws.
Beyond migration security, the ministers discussed efforts against transnational and cybercrime, the search for suspects and wanted individuals, personnel training and direct information-sharing between relevant units.
The sides agreed to continue direct contacts between the law enforcement agencies of both countries and to exchange experience.
Earlier, Kursiv reported that Kazakh President Qasym-Jomart Toqaev had accepted an invitation from Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan to visit Turkey.
