Kazakhstan will host the UEFA Super Cup for the first time in its history, with the 2028 showpiece match set to be played at the Astana Arena in the capital. The decision was made at a meeting of the Executive Committee of the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) in Thessaloniki, according to the Kazakhstan Football Federation, as reported by infohub.kz.
The federation stressed that the event would be a "major milestone in the country's history" for Kazakh football.
The UEFA Super Cup is the official match that opens the European club season. It pits the winners of the UEFA Champions League and the UEFA Europa League from the previous season against each other. The competition consists of a single game and is held in mid-August, before the start of the main group stages of the European club competitions. The venue is selected in advance at a stadium in one of the UEFA member countries and changes every year.
