Starting today, Kazakhstan has changed the procedure for obtaining unemployed status: whereas previously two days were allotted for finding suitable work, this period has now been extended to 13 days. The Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of the Population explains the innovation by saying that career centers should not just register a person but try to find them permanent employment, reports infohub.kz.
First, a citizen registers as a job seeker. This can be done through a career center, the eGov portal, or the Electronic Labor Exchange Enbek.kz. After that, specialists begin selecting vacancies.
"A career center specialist will thoroughly study the person's experience and skills, help identify suitable areas of work, select vacancies, and if necessary contact employers. That is, the task of the career center is not just to register a person but to help them find permanent work," the Ministry of Labor explained.
Up to 13 days are now allotted for this work. However, it is not necessary to wait the entire period: if employment is resolved earlier, the search period will end early.
An important point: the right to social benefits for loss of work is tied to a person's registration specifically as unemployed. Under current rules, the benefit is assigned from the day such right arises.
At the same time, as of October 1, the duration of the benefit itself is not being reduced.
"Important! On October 1, the duration of social benefits for loss of work does not change. Until the end of 2026, the benefit is provided under the current rules," the agency emphasized.
Currently, social benefits for loss of work can be assigned for a period of one to six months — the duration depends on the person's length of participation in the mandatory social insurance system.
Meanwhile, starting in November, artificial intelligence will search for jobs for unemployed Kazakhstanis. Currently, the pilot in Pavlodar and Mangystau regions has covered more than 59,000 people.
