Kazakhstan's men's volleyball team wrapped up its campaign at the 20th Summer Asian Games in Japan with a 3-1 victory over Indonesia in the 11th-place match on October 3, according to infohub.kz.
Sergey Trikoz's squad dropped the first set but then took the next three. The final set scores were 23-25, 25-23, 25-18, 25-20.
Vladislav Mastikhin led the attack with 19 points. Azamat Seilkhanov added 15 points, and Asylkhan Izbergenuly scored 14.
The men's volleyball tournament at the Asian Games has been held since 1958. Japan has won it more often than any other nation. Kazakhstan has never finished on the podium in the tournament's history. At the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou, the team placed ninth.
The 20th Summer Asian Games officially opened on September 19 and will close on October 4. Athletes from 45 countries are competing for 460 sets of medals. Kazakhstan's team includes 558 athletes in 35 sports.
On the first day of the Games, Kazakhstan won four gold medals. Cyclists Rinata Sultanova and Alexey Lutsenko, along with karateka Zholaman Bigabyl and Sofya Berultseva, became champions. MMA fighter Yerkingali Burkutalin added a fifth gold, and his mixed martial arts teammate Kadyrbek Shynbayev earned a sixth. On September 23, Lutsenko became a two-time champion of the 2026 Asian Games. On September 24, rowers Vladislav Yakovlev and Ivan Chernukhin won the eighth gold in the men's coxless pairs. On September 27, Kazakhstan's epee fencing team claimed the ninth gold. On October 2, boxers Torekhan Sabyrkhan and Aibek Oralbay, along with taekwondo athlete Tamirlan Tleules, won gold.
After 13 days of competition, Kazakhstan was eighth in the unofficial medal standings.
