Kazakhstan's women's volleyball team has ended its run at the Asian Championship in Tianjin, China, failing to advance from the group stage. After suffering two losses in three matches, the Kazakh athletes lost the chance to compete for a spot at the 2028 Olympic Games and the 2027 World Championship, according to infohub.kz.

The opening match against Indonesia ended in a sensational defeat — 0:3. Then the Kazakh women confidently beat Australia with the same score of 3:0. In the decisive group-stage match, the team coached by Askar Shalkibekov put up a fierce fight against the reigning continental champions from Thailand but lost 1:3. Thus, the team's fate depended on other results, which unfortunately did not go Kazakhstan's way.

In Group B, the final standings were as follows: Thailand won three matches, Indonesia two, and Kazakhstan and Australia one each. In the parallel groups, the third-placed teams were also determined: in Group A it was Chinese Taipei, and in Group C — Vietnam. All three teams, including Kazakhstan, finished with the same set difference of 4:6, so to determine the two best third-placed teams, the ratio of points won to points lost had to be calculated. The coefficients were: Chinese Taipei — 1.0313, Vietnam — 1.0234, Kazakhstan — 0.9270. Thus, the Kazakh team leaves the tournament.

In the quarterfinals, the matchups are: Thailand vs South Korea, Japan vs Chinese Taipei, Indonesia vs Iran, and China vs Vietnam.

This is the 23rd edition of the Asian Women's Championship. The winner earns a direct spot at the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles, while the top three teams qualify for the 2027 World Championship, to be held in Canada and the United States.

The first Asian Women's Volleyball Championship was held in Australia in 1975. Since then, over 22 tournaments, the podium has always been occupied by teams from China, Japan, Thailand, and South Korea. Only once did Kazakhstan break into that group: in 2005, the team became vice-champions, losing to the hosts China in the final 0:3.

At the previous Asian Championship in 2023 in Thailand, Kazakhstan finished fifth.
