Kazakhstan's men's volleyball team opened its Asian Games 2026 campaign with a 1-3 loss to Pakistan (16:25, 22:25, 25:17, 20:25). Sergei Trikoz's squad managed to take only one set, while the opponent looked stronger in all the others and deservedly won, according to infohub.kz.
The men's volleyball tournament features 16 teams divided into four groups. The top two teams from each group advance to the playoffs.
After the unexpected opening defeat, Kazakhstan's chances of advancing from the group have dropped noticeably. Sergei Trikoz's team must now beat Japan on September 28 and Uzbekistan on September 29. However, a win against the tournament hosts, the trendsetters in Asian volleyball, appears unlikely.

On the first day of the Games, Kazakhstan won four gold medals. Cyclists Rinata Sultanova and Alexey Lutsenko became champions, as did karatekas Zholaman Bigabyl and Sofya Berultseva. On September 23, Lutsenko became a two-time champion of the 2026 Asian Games. The eighth gold was won on September 24 by rowers Vladislav Yakovlev and Ivan Chernukhin in the men's coxless pairs. Today, Yasmina Toksanbayeva won the ninth gold in race walking.
After seven days of the Games, Kazakhstan was in fifth place in the unofficial medal standings.
