Kazakhstan has established a new state body — the Department of Water Diplomacy, which will operate under the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation. The 34-year-old Daniyar Sharip has been appointed as its head, reports infohub.kz.
As explained by the ministry's press service, the new unit is designed to ensure systematic and consistent work of the country in the field of water diplomacy. The department will coordinate Kazakhstan's participation in standing interstate commissions on transboundary water bodies, support the negotiation process with partner states, and also prepare and implement interstate agreements in the water sector.
Daniyar Sharip was born in 1992 in the Almaty Region. He graduated from the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University with a degree in Hydrology and from the Caspian Public University with a degree in Law.
He began his career in 2015 at the Department for Operation and Development of Water Management Facilities of the Committee on Water Resources of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan as an acting expert. Later he worked as an expert and chief expert.
In 2019, he held the position of chief expert of the Transboundary Rivers Division of the Department of Transboundary Rivers of the Ministry of Agriculture. From 2019 to 2023, he served as chief expert and then head of the Transboundary Rivers Division of the Department of Transboundary Rivers of the Ministry of Ecology, Geology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
From 2023 to 2024, he was a chief inspector of the Prime Minister's Office of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Since 2024, he has been deputy director and later director of the Department of International Cooperation of the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
