Weather across Kazakhstan will take a sharp turn for the worse in the first days of October, with forecasters at the national state enterprise Kazhydromet warning of rain, wet snow and strengthening winds across most of the country, the website infohub.kz reports.
From October 1 to 3, atmospheric frontal systems will bring unsettled conditions. The situation is expected to be most difficult in the western regions, where heavy rain mixed with wet snow and gale-force winds are forecast.
Temperatures in the west of the country will drop noticeably: overnight lows will fall to -1…-6°C, while daytime highs will reach only +3…+8°C. A sharp cold snap is expected in the northwest in the morning, with temperatures plunging from +15…+25°C to +5…+15°C. The north, east and center of the country are forecast to see +13…+23°C, the south and southeast +20…+25°C, and mountainous areas +10…+15°C.
No precipitation is expected in Astana. Overnight temperatures will be +4…+6°C, rising to +19…+21°C during the day. Northeast and east winds will gust up to 15–18 meters per second during the day.
Almaty will be dry and warm, with temperatures reaching +22…+24°C. Forecasters expect rain and thunderstorms during the day on October 1, though temperatures will stay at +22…+24°C. Rain and thunderstorms are again expected overnight and in the morning on October 2, with daytime temperatures dropping to +19…+21°C.
Precipitation will begin in Shymkent. Rain, thunderstorms and wind gusts of up to 15–20 meters per second are forecast during the day. Temperatures will be +22…+24°C.
