Starting in 2027, Kazakhstan will introduce separate wellbeing categories for families, and citizens classified in categories A and B will lose some state benefits — in particular, the right to receive a childbirth payment. However, as the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection of the Population of the Republic of Kazakhstan stresses, an assigned category is not static or permanent, the website infohub.kz reports.

Families are assessed using more than 59 indicators across 8 main areas. The information is drawn from the Digital Family Map, a system that collects data on all citizens and updates it periodically.

If a family's circumstances change significantly — for example, if someone loses their job or overall income falls — this is taken into account when assessing its wellbeing. When such changes move a family into a category eligible for state support (C, D, E), benefits are granted or restored under the conditions established by law.

Importantly, a family moving to another category does not mean benefits will be assigned automatically. To receive them, the family must be checked against all established requirements.

It was previously reported how to determine which wellbeing category a family in Kazakhstan falls into. The government also recently said that some citizens have already begun voluntarily giving up benefits. In addition, Kazakhstan has launched a calculator for checking wellbeing levels that anyone can use.
