The Ministry of Health of Kazakhstan has submitted for public discussion a draft order amending the rules for determining the severity of workplace injuries. The document establishes a list of factors that medical professionals must consider when issuing a conclusion, from the nature of the injuries to the threat to life and the risk of disability, reports infohub.kz.
According to the draft, when assessing the severity of a workplace injury, specialists are required to be guided by clinical data on the victim's condition, as well as medical standards for diagnosis and treatment.
Key criteria for determining the severity include: the nature and extent of the injuries (fractures, burns, damage to internal organs, traumatic brain injuries, and others); the presence of an immediate threat to life; the duration of temporary disability; the presence of permanent loss of general or professional working capacity; the need for hospitalization, surgical intervention, or resuscitation measures; and the outcome of the injury (recovery, disability, or death).
The ministry notes that updating the rules will improve the quality of medical care, make more efficient use of healthcare resources, and continue Kazakhstan's development in line with international standards.
The discussion of the document will last until August 19 of this year.
Earlier, Kursiv reported that in 2025, 2,328 people were injured at workplaces in Kazakhstan, with 184 incidents resulting in fatalities. In 2024, 2,471 people sustained injuries.
