In Aktobe, on August 22, 2026, wrestler Qazbek Kalmagambetov, who won a gold medal at the U20 Junior World Championships in Slovakia, was given a ceremonial welcome, reports infohub.kz.
According to the official Telegram channel of the Aktobe Region administration, the world champion in the weight category up to 67 kilograms was met at the Aliya Moldagulova International Airport by his parents, relatives, and hundreds of fellow citizens.
At the event, Meirambek Makhametov, head of the regional department of tourism, physical culture and sports, spoke. At the suggestion of the akim of Aktobe Region, Askhat Shakharov, he presented the athlete, who returned with a historic victory, with the keys to a car.
It is noted that Qazbek Kalmagambetov is the first athlete in the history of Aktobe Region to become a world champion in Greco-Roman wrestling in the U20 category.
Recall that the wrestler defeated four opponents on his way to the final in the weight category up to 67 kg. In the decisive match, his opponent was Belarusian Mikhail Markovsky. The confrontation ended with a score of 13:7 in favor of the Kazakhstani.
Thus, 19-year-old Qazbek Kalmagambetov became the world champion in the under-20 age category.
