In Hungary, the prestigious wrestling tournament 'Memorial Imre Polyak, Janos Varga, and Istvan Kozma' has kicked off. Freestyle wrestlers took the mat first. Team Kazakhstan won six medals: one gold, one silver, and four bronzes, reports the website infohub.kz.
The gold medal in the 61 kg weight category was won by Asyl Aytakyn. In the final, he faced Turkish wrestler Tolga Ozbek. The bout ended in a 2-2 draw, but Aytakyn was declared winner on criteria. The silver medal went to Nurkozha Kaipanov (74 kg). In the final, he wrestled Chinese Feng Lu; the match also ended in a 3-3 draw, but due to the last scored point rule, the gold went to his opponent.
Bronze medals were awarded to Nurdanat Aytanov and Meirambek Kartbay (57 kg), Adilet Almukhamedov (61 kg), and Nachyn Kuular (65 kg).
Those who failed to reach the podium include: Merey Bazarbayev (57 kg), Asylzhan Yesengeldi (61 kg), Adil Ospanov and Osimzhan Dastanbek (65 kg), Mais Aliyev, Olzhas Olzhakanov and Sanzhar Doszhanov (70 kg), Darkhan Yesengali and Kuandyk Shaldar (74 kg), Abylaykhan Uzembayev, Bolat Sakayev and Rustem Myrzagaliyev (86 kg).
The Memorial Imre Polyak, Janos Varga, and Istvan Kozma tournament is being held in Budapest from July 15 to 19. A total of 30 sets of medals will be awarded: ten each in Greco-Roman, freestyle, and women's wrestling.
