Kazakhstani epee fencer Kirill Prokhodov made the top-16 at the World Fencing Championships in Hong Kong, reports infohub.kz.
On the fifth day of competition, medals in individual events were contested by the women's saber fencers and Kazakhstani epee fencers. Among the men's epee squad, 19-year-old Kirill Prokhodov advanced furthest. To reach the quarterfinals, he faced reigning Asian champion Masaru Yamada of Japan. Prokhodov lost a close bout 11-15 and finished in the top-16 of the 2026 World Championships. Other Kazakhstani epee fencers Ruslan Kurbanov, Yerlik Sertai, and Vadim Sharlaimov also ended their individual runs. In women's saber, Aigerim Sarybai, Karina Dospay, and Anastasia Gulik lost their opening matches. The epee and saber fencers will also compete for medals in the team events, which run through July 30.
